Rohtang Pass (elevation 3,978 m / 13,051 ft) on the Manali–Leh Highway requires a mandatory permit for all tourists. The Himachal Pradesh government implemented this to protect the fragile Himalayan ecosystem and control vehicle pollution.

Pay via UPI, debit/credit card, or net banking. Download the permit PDF immediately after payment.

Carry Physical + Digital Copy
Print the permit AND keep it on your phone. Present it at the Gulaba checkpoint on the way up.

Important Rules to Remember
- Permits are non-transferable and valid only for the booked date
- No entry without a valid permit — heavy fines apply at the checkpoint
- Diesel vehicles are not allowed above Marhi (rule updated in 2024)
- Carry a valid government-issued photo ID matching the permit details
- Permits sell out fast — book exactly at midnight for peak season dates
Pro Travel Tip
If permits are sold out, hire a local Manali taxi with a taxi permit — local taxi operators have a separate quota not available on the online portal. Ask at your hotel reception in Manali.
